In 2000, I was granted for University Teacher Training (FPU) predoctoral program from the Ministry getting the international PhD with an extraordinary award, at the University of Las Palmas de G.C. I have taught nationally and internationally at the graduate and master degree at different Universities. I am currently a Professor (TU) at the University of Zaragoza, where I also coordinated the PhD program in Health and Sports Sciences (2013-2020) and I was President of the PhD Commission of this University (2014-2017). I coordinate the Master of Emergency Medicine and Mountain Rescue and I am the Dean, at the University of Zaragoza, of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences (No. 3 in Spain and top 100 in the world according to the Shanghai Ranking).
I was a member of the Scientific Committee of AECOSAN (Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality) (2015-2017); and the Scientific Committee for Sports, Health and NAOS of the General Council of Official Associations of Graduates in Sports Sciences (COLEF) (2014-present).
I am an active member of the GENUD (Growth, Exercise, Nutrition and Development) research group at the University of Zaragoza and the Government of Aragon. I am part of the Research Institute IA2 and the “Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición” (CIBEROBN) at ISCIII form Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. I was involved for several years in the Human Performance research group at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Under Prof. Calbet JAL supervision). Where I trained in Sports Sciences and obtained a European PhD working on the effects of exercise on body composition during growth (Extraordinary PhD award and best thesis of the year). I completed stays as a pre and postdoctoral associate at the Copenhagen Muscle Research Center (CMRC) at the University of Copenhagen (Under Prof. Saltin B supervision), and the Unit for Preventive Nutrition at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden (Under Prof. Sjöstrom M supervision).
I participated in more than 40 national and international projects related to exercise and health, of which I was the PI (principal investigator) of several of them. I have presented more than 250 communications in international scientific meetings, has more than 220 scientific publications, of which more than 170 are JCR international articles (Q1 and Q2> 70%). Included among the first 800 Spanish scientific researchers belonging to all areas of expertise (webometrics.info; May 2020); 73,638 of the 100,000 most cited in the world in all areas and 279 of 22,602 in the sports science area according to the Standford Ranking (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918). I serve as Section Editor of the journal BioMed Research International (Q2 WoS), and as guest editor in many others (i.e. Nutrients Q1 at WoS).
Of the 14 doctoral theses supervised, 14 are Cum Laude and 9 Extraordinary PhD Award, 10 of the PhD candidates have subsequently been hired as a lecturer in Spanish or foreign universities, 2 is a college professor and another is a doctor of the SNSS.
Although, quality teaching and research keep being my principal aim I am very interesting on social and business transfer and I am dedicating renewed efforts to implement exercise programs for older adults in the community of Aragon.
