Research fellow, University of Adelaide

After a farming/cattle breeding career I studied public health and completed a PhD on micronutrients (in particular selenium) in wheat at the University of Adelaide. From 2006-2010 I managed the HarvestPlus food system program, conducting agronomic biofortification trials in China, Colombia & Australia, a soil/plant minerals survey in East Africa and an orange sweet potato import/trial/awareness program in Solomon Islands & PNG. In 2016 HarvestPlus Director, Dr Howarth Bouis won the World Food Prize.

I have conducted agriculture/human nutrition programs, funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in Pacific countries and Northern Australia, with an emphasis on nutritious leafy vegetables. I am currently working on improving nutrition security on atolls of Kiribati & Tuvalu with leafy vegetables (ACIAR) and screening oats for tolerance to sodicity & salinity (SA Grain Industry Trust Fund), based at the University of Adelaide's Waite Campus.
