Han Dorussen is professor of Government at the University of Essex. His main areas of research are International Relations and Comparative Political Economy. He has written extensively about trade and conflict, peacekeeping and peace-building and EU politics.

He has written on the rise of far-right politics, in particular Pim Fortuyn, in the Netherlands, as well as the dynamics of group economic voting comparing Dutch and German elections. Most recently, he has edited a volume on EU foreign policy towards China, Security Relations between China and the European Union: From Convergence to Cooperation? (with Emil J. Kirchner and Thomas Christiansen), Cambridge University Press, ISBN: 978-1-107-14903-8
