PhD Candidate in Politics and International Studies, SOAS, University of London

Hangwei Li is a PhD candidate in politics and international studies at SOAS, University of London and an award-winning journalist. She was a Pre-doctoral fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and a researcher at the Global Development Policy Center. Before pursuing her PhD, she worked as a journalist and researcher in Zambia, Tanzania and Ghana. Her research interests include China’s political and economic engagement in Africa and African media politics. She is also engaging a three-year research project on spillover effects of Chinese FDI in Africa. Her research interests on China-Africa relationship was inspired when she was completing her Master thesis on African traders in Guangzhou.
