My expertise is in solar and stellar physics, particularly in an effort to understand the solar dynamo using helioseismology and asteroseismology. The solar dynamo produces the Sun's magnetic field, which increases and decreases in activity level with an 11 year period. Space weather is a practical consequence of solar magnetism, and successful space weather forecasting relies on having a thorough physical understanding of the Sun's magnetic field.
I am an ARC Future Fellow focused on research 'Closing the Solar Cycle' at the University of Newcastle, Australia, after spending fourteen years working as a research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen, Germany.
