Professor of Property Law and Death Studies, Queen's University Belfast

Professor Heather Conway is Professor of Property Law and Death Studies in the School of Law at Queen’s University, Belfast. Her primary research interest is in the law governing the fate of the recently dead and associated decision-making responsibilities, with particular emphasis on the laws around the post-mortem treatment of bodies, corpse disposal (including new technologies), and disputes within families over their dead (including funeral disputes, the legal status of funeral instructions, and family tensions around exhumation and commemoration). She has presented and published extensively in this area, is the author of 'The Law and the Dead' (Routledge, 2016), and is a Council Member and trustee of the Cremation Society.

Professor Conway writes and researches in the areas of property law and succession law, and is one of a growing number of scholars interested in 'law and emotion'. With Dr John Stannard, she co-edited 'The Emotional Dynamics of Law and Legal Discourse' (Routledge, 2016).
