Dr Helen Holmes is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology based in the Sustainable Consumption Institute, University of Manchester. Her work explores the intersections of consumption and diverse forms of economy, through a focus on materials and practices. In particular, she explores how the circular economy can be socially and materially embedded within individual, household and community practices. Her recent research has focused on networks of recycling, repair, redistribution and reuse, examining meso and micro level practices within households and community groups. Dr Holmes leads the social science work package of the UKRI-ISCF Smart Sustainable Packaging project: ‘One Bin to Rule Them All’ focused on household plastic recycling. She is the lead author of the project’s policy report: 'Tackling household plastic waste: best practice for a plastics circular economy.'
