Hervé-Thomas Campangne

Professor of French Studies, University of Maryland

My research focuses on cultural, historical, political and diplomatic aspects of France-USA relations. I have also published extensively on early modern French history and literature, with a focus on travel narratives and images of the Americas in Renaissance France.

As a professor of French studies in the United States and as director of Education Abroad programs in France (University of Maryland in Nice, Bard College in Tours), I have been especially interested in intercultural issues and questions. My recent work examines contemporary issues in France-USA relations through the lens of history. In my teaching, scholarship and student mentorship, I strive to facilitate a better understanding between American and French people.
