I started my PhD studies at JOMEC in 2012, enabled by the Geoff Mungham Overseas Award scholarship and a sponsorship from Intellect.
My thesis is a critical account on the development of Chinese cinema studies in English-language academia, with a theoretical framework informed by Pierre Bourdieu.
Apart from above, I conduct research on policy and strategies in relation to creative industries collaboration between the UK and China, with a particular focus on the screen industries.
My research interests cover the historical, theoretical and industrial issues around film:
critical history of film theory/criticism
film criticism in early newspapers
cultural history of cinema going and audience memory
the essence of film criticism
the ontology of film
Industrial (Policy & Strategies)
creative industries/film collaboration between the UK and China
international film co-production
international film distribution (theatrical & VOD)
arthouse cinema exhibition
