Hugo Delgado Granados

Researcher, Department of Volcanology, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Geological Engineer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), with masters and doctorate in science from Tohoku University (Japan). His academic work includes volcano stratigraphy, tectonics-volcanism relations, geochemistry of volcanic gases, study of volcano-ice interactions, glaciology, and natural hazard assessment. Senior researcher at the Institute of Geophysics (UNAM), professor at the Faculty of Engineering and the Earth Sciences Graduate Program at UNAM and a senior member of the National System of Researchers.

Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Geological Phenomena of the National System of Civil Protection and the Scientific Advisory Committee for the study of the activity of Popocatepetl volcano. He was the Founding President of the Latin American Association of Volcanology and Vice President of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). He is Secretary of the IAVCEI Commission on Volcano-Ice Interactions, national representative to the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences, the World Glacier Monitoring Service, the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space and the UNESCO Snow and Ice Program for Latin America and the Caribbean. He has published more than 113 scientific papers in international journals and national and foreign books.
