Ibukun J. Adewumi

PhD Candidate, University of Wollongong

Ibukun facilitates World Ocean Council’s outreach and partnership activities and the Young Ocean Professionals Initiative in West Africa, with the aim to engage young professionals and foster discourse on Blue Economy sustainability in the Sub-region.

Ibukun is the Director of Programs and International Partnerships with the African Marine Environment Sustainability Initiative. He was previously a consultant with the World Bank as an MSP/ICZM Specialist on the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program, and an MSP and Ocean Governance researcher with the IOC-UNESCO’s Marine Policy and Regional Coordination Section.

Ibukun holds a degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria, and an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters in Maritime Spatial Planning by the Universita Iuav of Venezia, the University of Sevilla and the University of the Azores. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Business and Public Policy at the National University of Ireland—focusing his research on Stakeholders’ participation in designing policies for the Blue Economy in West Africa.
