Im Quah-Smith has an interest in preventative medicine and stress management.
She has spent many years in general practice ( primary care) on the North Shore of Sydney before subspecialising in medical acupuncture after exploring the use of acupuncture in medical care to improve patient health outcomes. Leading on from the Masters by research at Monash University, she was given the opportunity by Prof Perminder Sachdev , Scientia Professor, University of New South Wales to investigate the biological evidence base for the use of laser acupuncture in depression. Today she is involved in preventative care and rehabilitation using laser and needle acupuncture. She also teaches meditation as part of preventative care, stress and pain management.She continues to work part time in research. In 2013 she will start work on a project in post traumatic stress disorder using ear acupuncture.
