Teaching Fellow, Department of Mathematics, University of Portsmouth

Ittay Weiss is a Teaching Fellow in Mathematics at the University of Portsmouth since 2016. He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in mathematics cum laude from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and his Ph.D. from Utrecht University. He held lectureship positions in Utrecht and later in Fiji before settling down in England.

Ittay's research interests are in pure mathematics, more specifically in topology, homotopy theory, metric geometry, and category theory. He is particularly drawn to practical abstractions with an algebraic flavour, as he is working on solving problems by employing categorical techniques and point-of-view. Other than these research topics he is interested in broad aspects of mathematics, its interactions with society, and the history of mathematics.
