Jacqueline Hamilton

Reader in Atmospheric Chemistry, University of York

Dr Jacqui Hamilton is a Reader in Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of York. She works in the Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories, a state of the art facility for the study urban, indoor and global air pollution, stratospheric ozone depletion and climate change.

She completed a PhD in 2003 developing analytical methods to study the complexity of organic molecules in the atmosphere. Current research interests include high resolution mass spectrometry to study sources of atmospheric particles, one of the key pollutants for health effects in areas of poor air quality. She also developed a highly sensitive method to study third hand tobacco smoke in house dust, allowing the first every cancer risk assessment from this exposure route. She was awarded the 2009 Desty Memorial Award for Innovation in Separation science. She has taken part in field campaigns all over the world, from the tropical rainforests of Borneo to the megacity Beijing.
