Professor of population and development studies, University of Kinshasa

Jacques Emina is a Professor at the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He is also the Managing Director of the Population and Health Research Institute (PHERI), a research institution based in Kinshasa, DRC.

Prof Emina completed his PhD in Social Sciences (Demography) from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) in March 2005. He recently Coordinated the Research and Evaluation component of the USAID funded research and evaluation project, called Evidence for Development (E4D).

Prof Emina previously worked as the Science Programme Manager for the Scientific Research Coordination Section at the INDEPTH Network Secretariat in Accra, Ghana (May 2013 - April 2015). He also worked as Senior Research Bio-Statistician at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust in Malawi (2011); WHO/TDR-PSI Regional Coordinator for the External Evaluation of the Impact of PSI's intervention of Community Case Management of Childhood Illness on all causes of Childhood Mortality in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi (2010-2011); as well as Researcher and Head of the Data Unit at African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

He has extensive experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, population and health policy’s analysis, sexual and reproductive health, the demography of marginalized and vulnerable population, operations research, and the Demography of family and household.

Prof Emina is an active Member of professional associations, including the Population Association of America (PAA) and the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP). He is the Secretary-General of the Union for African Population Studies.
