Jakob is an ARC Professorial Fellow. Jakob's research interests are in macroeconomics, endogenous and unified economic growth, stock and house price valuation, macrofinance, history of economic growth, and applied econometrics. Previously Jakob has held professorial positions at the University of Copenhagen and Brunel University, London and lecturing positions at the University of Southampton, University of Western Australia, and Flinders University.

He has published his research in numerous top-field journals including Journal of Economic Growth, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Monetary Economics, The Economic Journal, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Oxford Economic Papers, Economic Letters, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Economic History, Canadian Journal of Economics, Explorations in Economic History, Economica, and Southern Economic Journal.
