James Murphy teaches politics at Swinburne University. In 2019 he completed his doctoral studies with a thesis on the politics of East West Link with the assistance of an Australian Postgraduate Award.

He received a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours from Swinburne in 2013, and worked as a research assistant with the Swinburne Institute for Social Research in 2015.

James has a strong interest in Australian and Victorian politics, political theory and history.
