James Murphy lectures and tutors in politics and public policy at the University of Melbourne. He has written on Australian elections, lobbying, pressure politics and the politics of infrastructure. His PhD, completed in 2019 at Swinburne University of Technology, looked at the making and unmaking of Melbourne's notorious East-West Link. His first book, adapted from that research, was published by Melbourne University Press in July 2022.
