Doctoral Supervisor, Bath Spa University

Janet is an external Doctoral Supervisor to the Department of Psychology and former Reader in Education at Bath Spa University. She specialises in early childhood education with a particular interest in the adult role and has co-authored a book on this subject. She has undertaken research in a number of areas in education. Her doctoral thesis investigated the impact of action research on teachers' critical thinking and she has investigated transformational learning in a variety of contexts. Her most recent research interests mainly focus on children's emotional development. She has led several funded research projects working in collaboration with schools, local authorities and various community agencies to facilitate the adoption of emotion coaching in order to promote children's emotional regulation, pro-social behaviour, well-being and resilience. She has also led a pilot research project on attachment awareness in schools and trauma-informed practice. Her most recent co-authored book is Health and Well-being in the Early Years.
In the summer of 2016 she became Principal of Norland College but remains professionally linked to Bath Spa University.
