Jaskiran Kaur Chohan

Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Human Geography, University of Bristol

I am a political ecologist with an interdisciplinary background in the Social Sciences. I hold a bachelor’s degree in History and Spanish from University College London (UCL), a MSc in Latin American Studies from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Development Studies from UCL. During my PhD I researched the contestation between industrial farming methods and agroecology in two Zonas de Reserva Campesina, Colombia to understand how these rural communities construct alternative sustainable development and the obstacles they face. I am currently a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on the project Por el Paramo, at the University of Bristol, which explores tensions between peasant livelihoods and conservation policies in the mountainous region of Boyacá, Colombia.
