Jathan Sadowski studies the political economy and social theory of technology. He is a Senior Lecturer and DECRA Fellow in the Emerging Technologies Research Lab in the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. He is also an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S).
Jathan's current major research project—funded by a DECRA fellowship from the Australian Research Council—is focused on analysing the market for insurance technology, the regime of actuarial governance, and the impacts of this risk business on our lives and for our future. He is the author of two books—Too Smart (MIT Press, 2020) and The Mechanic and the Luddite (UC Press, 2025)—both about technology and capitalism.
