Dr. Baniya is a Nepal-based researcher. Currently, he is a teaching faculty at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS), Tribhuvan University where he teaches a PhD course on International Relations and Diplomacy. He also teaches masters degree courses at Department of International Relations and Diplomacy (DIRD), TU as a part time faculty member.

He is a PhD in Political Science from University of Oslo, Norway. He has been involved in research related to disasters, labour and migration, public policies, state-society relations, democracy and development etc. Currently, he is involved in two disaster related collaborative projects: Expertise, Labour, and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Earthquake Reconstruction: Construction, Finance, and Law as Domains of Social Transformation’ (https://elmnr.arts.ubc.ca) and; After the Earth's Violent Sway: The tangible and intangible legacies of a natural disaster (http://sway.soscbaha.org).
