Associate Professor of Journalism, Virginia Commonwealth University

I worked for 20 years as a newspaper reporter and editor in Texas, Arizona and Virginia before joining the faculty at VCU in 1997 under the mistaken impression I'd have summers off. My students have won more than 30 awards for political reporting and other coverage. I have received teaching awards from VCU and the Society of Professional Journalists, as well as a Fulbright to teach in China. As both a journalist and a journalism educator, I have carved out a specialty in using technology to find, report and tell powerful news stories.
