Jennifer Ruth Hosek

Professor, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Queen's University, Ontario

Jennifer Ruth Hosek is Professor in Queen's Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department, cross-appointed with Film and Media Studies and with Gender Studies, and affiliated with the Cultural Studies Graduate Program and the Queen's University-University of Havana Exchange. Responding to the pandemic, Dr. Hosek spearheaded the Queen's Faculty of Arts and Science and School of Policy Studies webinar series Contagion Cultures with Warren Mabee. Her transnational approach to culture focuses on Cuba and Europe (Germany). One of Jennifer's current larger project investigates non/petrocultural urban movement and includes the co-directed, award-winning documentary Rodando en La Habana: bicycle stories. Her work includes the monograph Sun, Sex, and Socialism: Cuba in the German Imaginary, co-edited anthologies on Berlin and on Christa Wolf, and the peer-to-peer language tandem web platform www.linguaelive.ca.
