Jill Johnstone

Dr. Jill Johnstone was a full professor and is now an adjuct professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and holds research affiliations at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Yukon University. She has been conducting research in the areas of northern plant ecology and environmental biology since the early 1990's, with a M.Sc. in plant biogeography from the University of British Columbia and Ph.D. in boreal forest ecology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Dr. Johnstone founded the Northern Plant Ecology Lab at the U of S in 2006, with graduate students conducting research in Alaska, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. She now works as a freelance researcher based in the Yukon Territory. Her research continues to focus on the role of natural and human disturbances in catalyzing ecosystem responses to climate change.
