Senior lecturer - Education Studies, Bath Spa University

Dr Jim Crawley

I have worked for over 35 years in the Further, Adult and Higher Education, in the fields of teacher education, professional development, basic skills and adult and community learning.

I co-ordinated the Lifelong Learning Post Compulsory teacher education programme at Bath Spa University for twelve years, which was the only provision in England until 2012 to have gained two consecutive Grade One Ofsted results. I am currently a full time Education Studies lecturer and a Teaching Fellow at Bath Spa University, and am still heavily involved in teacher education research and adult education. I am the author of the Routledge (Fulton Books) text: ‘In at the Deep End: a survival guide for teachers in Post Compulsory Education’ (2010) 2nd Ed, and a wide range of papers, reports and conference contributions.

I was chair of the Post-16 Committee of the Universities’ Council for the Education of teachers (UCET) between 2012 and 2015.

I started and am convenor of a national research network (Teacher Education in Lifelong Learning - TELL) with over 200 members; Chair of South West Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training and Convenor of the SW Regional Teacher Educators’ Forum.

I gained my Ph D with a thesis on ‘the professional situation of teacher educators in the Lifelong Learning sector’ in November 2014.
