Joanna Clifton-Sprigg

Lecturer in Economics, University of Bath

Dr Joanna Clifton-Sprigg joined the Department of Economics in July 2015 as a Lecturer in Economics. She holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and has previously worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Bristol.

Joanna’s main research interests range from migration and labour economics to economics of education. She is predominantly interested in the socio-economic implications of the unprecedented increase in migratory movements within the European Union over the past decade.

Her work to date has been mainly empirical and explored, among other things:

The impact of parental employment abroad on children’s educational outcomes
The classroom spillover effects of parental employment abroad
The development of cognitive and non-cognitive skills of bilingual children

To enable the research, she has also initiated and led a data collection project in schools in Poland.
