Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Technology Sydney

Dr Joanne Steel is a speech pathologist with a clinical and research interest in adults with communication disorders following an acquired brain injury. Her PhD research investigated cognitive communication recovery during post-traumatic amnesia and has informed speech pathology assessment in the post-acute period after traumatic brain injury. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) working on research funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council, and a research affiliate in Moving Ahead CRE in Brain Recovery, aiming for translation of brain injury research into clinical practice. She is also a clinical educator for the University of Newcastle working within the aged care sector.
