Joel Penney is an Associate Professor of the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University, and received his doctorate from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on everyday political expression in both online and offline venues, with particular attention to the logics and controversies of peer-to-peer persuasion. His new book is "The Citizen Marketer: Promoting Political Opinion in the Social Media Age," published by Oxford University Press as part of the series Oxford Studies in Digital Politics, edited by Andrew Chadwick.
