Assistant Professor of Urban Food Systems, Virginia Commonwealth University

John C. Jones researches the role that urban food production, distribution, sales can play in responding to many of the challenges facing post-industrial cities; namely high rates of vacant or abandoned land and buildings, unemployment, and dietary-related diseases. He is an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. He is also a member of the Sustainable Food Access Core at the Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry, and Innovation (iCubed), a trans-disciplinary community of scholars examining challenges facing urban environments. He holds a faculty appointment at the Center for Environmental Studies at VCU. His interdisciplinary academic background includes doctoral work in the joint Urban Systems program at Rutgers University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, as well as graduate work in public administration and baccalaureate work in political science at the University of Dayton.
