John Gaffney is a political commentator and author, and currently Professor of Politics at Aston University. Specialising in French politics and the discourse of leadership, he regularly contributes to TV and print media. His latest book Political Leadership in France: From Charles de Gaulle to Nicolas Sarkozy (Palgrave, 2012), is out now in paperback.

He is the author of three other monographs on French and British Politics. He has written fifty journal articles and chapters, and has edited a dozen books, his most recent being Stardom in Postwar France (Berghahn, 2011), with Diana Holmes.

John Gaffney is also Co-Director of the Aston Centre for Europe, a Visiting Professor at The Institute for Political Studies, Sciences Po, Rennes and has twice been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University.
