Professor John Handmer leads RMIT’s Centre for Risk and Community Safety
and its Human Security Program. He was Convener of the National
Climate Change Adaptation Research Network for Emergency Management, Principle Scientific Advisor for the Bushfire CRC, and a leader of the IPCC's Special Report on Extremes. He works on the social and economic aspects of emergency management and disasters, and is currently completing a major project on the costs of disasters in Australia.
