Professor of Epidemiology, UNSW Sydney

After completing a doctorate in biostatistics at Berkeley, I worked in cancer epidemiology and prevention at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France for six years. Then I returned to Australia, and took up a position at the University of New South Wales with responsibility for establishing a national program of public health surveillance and epidemiology to support the First National AIDS Strategy. I have maintained my involvement in HIV research, at the same time as initiating a wide range of research programs in infectious disease control.
