Honorary Research Fellow in Agrarian History, University of Leicester

Professor John Martin is Professor of Agrarian History, an Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Leicester. His research focuses on the transformation of the countryside, agriculture and rural life. Prof Martin is author of The Development of Modern Agriculture, which examines the changes in farming from the First World War to today. He is particularly interested in the issue of food security with regard to the impact of and legacy of the state sponsored agricultural revolution during the two world wars.

In addition to his extensive publications, he has acted as an advisor and consultant for the ‘Wartime Farm’, ‘Tudor Monastery Farm’ and ‘Full Steam Ahead’ series produced by Lion TV for the BBC as well as acting as a consultant for ITV’s ‘Home Fires’ series.
