Jonathan Dugdale

PhD Candidate in Medieval History, University of Birmingham

Currently studying for a PhD in Medieval History at the University of Birmingham under the supervision of Prof. Naomi Stand and Dr. Dominik Maschek, my research into the pagodas of the Liao Dynasty crosses the disciplinary boundaries of History, Archaeology and the Digital Humanities. In seeking to establish these pagodas within their wider regional context across East-Asia, I have had the opportunity to explore the history not just of China, but also of Mongolia, Korea and Japan, as well as their political, cultural and religious connections throughout the Liao period.
