Dr Makuwira's research interests include Aid effectiveness Poverty eradication in developing countries, Post-conflict development and peace building,
Comparative Indigenous studies and Peace and Development Education in Fragile States/Democracies.

His current research field is Urban Poverty and Non-Governmental Development Organisations' (NGDOs') Intervention Mechanisms in Malawi, funded by RMIT Emerging Researchers Grant.
