Full Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics and Gerontology) and Doctor of Medicine with the extraordinary award (UDC). Master's Degree in Management of Gerontological Centres (USC). Master's Degree in Clinical and Social Gerontology (USC). Coordinator of the Gerontology and Geriatrics Research Group (1992-2023), the Master's Degree in Gerontological and Geriatric Assessment and Intervention (2008-2023), and the Interuniversity Official Master's Degree in Gerontology (2006-2023).
Regarding my scientific contribution: Author of more than 100 scientific articles published in journals of the specialty, of which 72 are indexed in the Web of Sciences (JCR) (18 indexed in Q1; cumulative impact index of 129,684 an h-Index 24), many of them made in collaboration with Italian, Austrian, Danish and Polish research groups, among others. Author of 78 works, between books and book chapters published in prestigious publishers. I have participated in more than 50 National and International Congresses, presenting more than 350 works, of which 30 were presentations by invitation. I have participated as Principal Investigator in 48 competitive projects, highlighting 7 Internationals. Adding the project funding to that obtained by contracts and agreements, I have raised about 9 million euros that have allowed the group that led the creation and financing of research places from projects; as well as achieving different milestones reflected in my CV.
Regarding my contributions to society: Director of “La Milagrosa Gerontological Complex” at Coruña. The “La Milagrosa” has developed different non-pharmacological therapies for the care of the older adults and people with dependence that are applied to its residents, constituting a reference centre, both for its care model and its innovation. I have signed agreements and contracts with different entities of the teaching and research field, highlighting the contract for the exploitation of patent No ES2325345-A1 ES2325345-B1, of which I am the author, as well as three intellectual property registrations with a technology-based company (RySGG S.L.).
Regarding my contributions to the training of young researchers I have directed twenty-four doctoral theses and I am currently directing the doctoral thesis of 9 students assigned to the PhD program in Health Sciences, where I coordinate the line of research in Gerontology and Geriatrics. I have also directed numerous end-of-grade works, master's degree works and Advances Studies Diploma works. I have also directed and supervised stays of young researchers within the Gerontology and Geriatrics Research Group.
Other relevant merits: Three six-years periods of research activity (1998-2004/2005-2010 and 2011-2016) and a six-year period of knowledge transfer and innovation (2001-2011) granted by the National Evaluation Commission for Research Activity. Nine sections of research and teaching excellence by the ACSUG (2019). Five five-year teaching activity and three sections of positive evaluation "Docentia". Secretary (1999-2000) and Assistant Director (2000-2001) of the EU for Occupational Therapy and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (2001- 2005). Having been Director of the Master's postgraduate course and Specialist in Clinical Gerontology (1999-2008), in addition I have directed the doctoral programs “Aging: Advances and Research (2005-2007)” and “Gerontology (2009-2014)”. I have made a predoctoral stay at the USC Lennart Levi Research Centre and three postdoctoral stays at the University of Gabrovo (Bulgaria), the Matía Gerontological Institute (San Sebastian) and the Polytechnical Institute of Viana do Castelo de Portugal (IACOBUS Program). Corresponding academic of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Galicia. Member of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology; Galician Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics and Spanish Society of Geriatric and Gerontological Nursing.
