Executive Manager, Research Engagement, UTS; PhD candidate in Higher Education, UNSW

Julian Zipparo is an Executive Manager at the UTS Research Office, and is finalising a PhD thesis at UNSW on the topic of institutional diversity in Australian higher education. Prior to joining UTS Julian has had ~15 years of experience working in university research management, including having worked at three different universities: Macquarie University, University of Canberra, and UNSW, as well as at the Australian Research Council.

His areas of interest and expertise include research engagement, policy and management, as well as research strategy development in higher education. In the course of both his work and research, Julian has developed an understanding of the Australian university research policy and program landscape, and how it intersects with university strategic behaviour and research decision making. He particularly enjoys sharing this understanding in ways which contextualise the work of academic researchers and university research managers and administrators, and will advocate to anybody who will listen on the unique role and value of university research to society!
