Associate professor, Hamad Bin Khalifa University

Kamilla Swart is Associate Professor in the recently established Masters in Sport and Entertainment Management, Hamad Bin Khalifa University; a joint degree with the University of South Carolina. She also serves as a Senior Research Associate, School of Tourism Hospitality, University of Johannesburg. She served as Professor and Program Director of the Masters in Sport Management, American University in the Emirates (2017-2019). Prior to joining AUE, she headed up the Centre for Tourism Research in Africa, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (from 2003). Kamilla has 25 years’ experience in sport, tourism and events that spans academia and the private sector and has consulted broadly in both the public and private sectors. Her specific research interests include mega-events, event policies, strategies, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, legacy and women in sport. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, 25 book chapters and numerous conference presentations and technical reports related to sport tourism and mega-events. Kamilla co-authored the first U.S. text on sport tourism in 2002. She has co-edited three special issues on the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. She is currently driving the 2022 FIFA World Cup Research Agenda, working closely with the Qatar Foundation 2022 FIFA World Cup Master Program and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. Kamilla served as Regional Editor (Africa) for the Journal of Destination Marketing and Management and was subsequently appointed as Associate Editor. She also served on the editorial board of Frontiers in Sports and Active Living and was recently appointed as Associate Editor. Kamilla serves on the editorial boards of Alternation and the International Journal of Sport Marketing & Sponsorship.
