Professor of Health and Ethnicity, University of East London

Lord Kamlesh Patel is Professor and University Director of Strategic Partnerships and Senior Advisor to the Vice Chancellor, University of East London. He is also a Professorial Fellow at the Royal Society of Public Health in London and The Institute of Mental Health Nottingham.

He is a Life Peer in the House of Lords and sits on the Crossbench.

He holds a number of chairmanships including for Community Innovations Enterprise and the International Forum for Community Innovations. He is also Chairman of All Party Parliamentary Group on Men’s Health and Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Prison Health.

Until recently he was Chair of the Mental Health Act Commission and was a Commissioner of the Healthcare Commission until his appointment in the House of Lords.

He is author of a number of national reports including The Patel Report into Prison Drug Treatment.
