Head of Research Excellence Training, University of York

Dr Karen Clegg is Head of the Research Excellence Training Team and is responsible for the strategic development of the University's support and provision for postgraduate research students, research staff and PhD supervisors. Karen has worked in academic staff and student development for over 25 years and prior to that was a research associate exploring and developing innovative assessment. Karen has wide ranging experience of supporting university research activities and researchers at an individual, group and institutional level and is a member of national Researchers14 group where she co-ordinated the collective response for the Concordat review. She works closely with Vitae, the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE), the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), Wellcome and UKRI to ensure that the training delivered at York reflects societal and stakeholder needs.

Karen is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a trained coach and continues to publish. The second edition of 'Innovative Assessment in Higher Education: a handbook for academic practitioners ' was released in May 2019.
