Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in History, University of Manchester

I research the history of the family, gender, sexuality, poverty, class and inequality. I specialise in the history of Britain and its empire from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. I have published on the history of extra-marital sex, illegitimacy, unmarried parenthood, fostering, and adoption. I worked in museums and heritage for several years before my PhD and continue to provide consultancy for museums, local history groups and the BBC.
My book Illegitimacy, Family, and Stigma in England, 1660-1834 was published by Oxford University Press in 2022.
