I'm a Research Associate in the Neuroscience of Speech and Action (NoSA) Laboratory http://wp.lancs.ac.uk/nosalab at Lancaster University, lead by Dr Helen Nuttall. I'm interested in the effects of age-related hearing loss on the brain, body, and well-being.
In our current research, we investigate the brain areas involved with speech understanding and how these may be affected by hearing loss using neuroscientific methods including, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and electroencephalography (EEG). We also explore the relationship between hearing loss, mental health, and cognitive function, and how health inequalities may contribute to hearing loss in later life.
During PhD, I worked in Dr Michael Richter's Effort Lab at Liverpool John Moores University where I investigated how 'listening effort', the increased effort needed for people with hearing loss to communicate in daily life, is reflected in the body's physiological responses.
