Kate Newman studies political theory, political economy, and urban politics. She is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria, where she previously also completed her MA (2013).
Passionate about continental philosophy and contemporary political thought, Kate researches governmentalities and urban space. Her work deals with issues relating to globalization and urban government, and PhD dissertation focuses on nocturnal cities and urban government at night.
Kate currently lives and researches in New York, where she is a Fulbright visiting researcher at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Thanks to support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, she was previously a visiting researcher at University College London.
