Kathleen Howland

Kathleen Howland earned a B.M. in music therapy from Emmanuel College and a M.S.P. and Ph.D. in speech language pathology from the University of South Carolina with an emphasis on music and cognition. Howland has been lecturing, consulting and researching the effects of music on the mind and body in both education and medical settings. She is a founding member of Greater Boston Music Therapy and maintains a private practice in music therapy with a variety of clients, including those with neurogenic disorders (strokes, Parkinson's disease) and developmental conditions (speech and language disorders). Howland wrote the Arts and Neuroscience class for the Liberal Arts department that serves as the science portion of the Liberal Arts curriculum. She also teaches 'Human Growth and Development' and 'Music Education with Special Needs Learners' in the Music Education department.
