Katlego Disemelo

Katlego Disemelo is a PhD student and teaching assistant at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds an MA in Media Studies. His dissertation, titled "Black Men as Pink Consumers? A critical reading of race, sexuality and the construction of the pink economy in South African queer consumer media", won the 2014 Stuart Hall Prize for Postgraduate Research. He is a discourse analyst who is interested in representations of black transgressive/queer masculinities in popular culture. He is currently undertaking his doctoral research on drag beauty pageantry in Johannesburg.
