My research focuses on re-aligning seasonally dry forested landscapes with current and projected climate. After more than a century of fire exclusion and intensive resource use, dense forests and highly connected fuel loads leave forest ecosystems vulnerable to seasonally and episodic increases in drought and fire, particularly under a rapidly warming climate. Proactive management can moderate ecosystem transitions as forests and human communities adapt to changing climatic regimes.
