Kelly Soderstrom

Lecturer and Research Fellow, UNSW Sydney

I completed my PhD in Politics and International Relations in 2022 from The University of Melbourne, School of Social and Political Sciences. My PhD thesis and current research investigate state responsibilities in asylum governance in Australia, Germany, and the EU. My work on asylum governance has appeared in The Conversation, Pursuit, and the Journal of Citizenship and Globalisation Studies. I have also published articles on asylum governance with the European Council on Refugees and Exiles and the Australian Institute of International Affairs. I was a named researcher on the Jean Monnet Erasmus+ Network Grant "Comparative Network on Refugee Externalisation Policies" where I investigated the use of externalisation practices in Australia and the EU. I am currently based at the University of New South Wales researching and teaching topics related to the intersection of institutional ethics and asylum governance.
