A long career as a professional botanist with an interest in systematics, evolution, identification tools, and explaining the practices, principles and implications of taxonomy to community groups.

Previously head of the Western Australian Herbarium in Perth with an adjunct teaching and research position at UWA. Voted by UWA Student Guild Student Choice Award 2015 as one of most inspiring lecturers.

Currently Director of Taxonomy Australia, a peak body representing the sciences of taxonomy and biosystematics (discovery and documentation of species and their relationships)
