Laurie James-Hawkins

Lecturer in Sociology and Social Psychology, University of Essex

Dr James-Hawkins is a social psychologist with interests in health, gender, social norms, and reproductive health. She studies gender and contraceptive use among emerging adults, as well as gender and health in Islamic countries. More broadly, Dr James-Hawkins is interested in the social psychology of women's health and reproductive health, human sexuality, gender dynamics, men and masculinity, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Dr James-Hawkins joined the sociology department at the University Essex in Fall of 2017. She completed her PhD in Sociology with a concentration in Health and Society at the University of Colorado Boulder, and was a post-doctoral fellow in Gender, Family, and Global Health in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
