Lee worked as a research assistant and veterinarian before doing a PhD (Diseases in Australian frogs) at the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory and James Cook Uni from 1995-2001.

She spent a year at the National Wildlife Health Centre in Madison, Wisconsin doing amphibian pathology then returned to Australia to take up an ARC postdoctoral fellowship and then a ARC Future Fellowship.

Her research and professional interests include amphibian diseases, particularly the pathogenesis and epidemiology of chytridiomycosis, wildlife diseases and conservation.
